In a book, the story of Pierantonio Costa, the consul who saved two thousand Rwandans

Milan - A book remembering the feats and courage of Pierantonio Costa is hitting the shelves, curated by Giuliano Rizzi for Edizioni del Faro, featuring the recollections of those who met him, titled: " Ho solo obbedito alla mia coscienza." "If they are all still alive, they number two thousand and are over 30 years old," writes Corriere della Sera. Their memory likely holds the image of the Italian who, in the spring of 1994, led the way ahead of armed troops with rifles, axes, and machetes in the remote villages of Rwanda. He packed his jeep with men, women, and children destined for genocide, and brought them to safety beyond the border, in Burundi. Honorary consul Pierantonio Costa rescued anyone he could from the bloodshed between Hutu and Tutsi. "He passed away three years ago," writes the Corriere della Sera, "but he has not been forgotten, even in Italy." (9colonne)
