AI Hub for African Countries

Cairo - Adolfo Urso, Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy, met with Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Arab Republic of Egypt, in Cairo. Among the topics discussed was economic cooperation within the Mattei Plan for Africa and the development of the digital economy sector, particularly through the establishment of an AI Hub for Sustainable Development in Africa, as indicated in the ministerial declaration of the G7 Industry Ministers' Summit held on March 14th in Verona. In a context where building a new partnership between Italy and African states is essential, with Egypt considered a priority in this context, Minister Urso highlighted the strategic importance of the Mattei Plan promoted by the Italian government. "Among the major areas of the Plan," Minister Urso stated, "we attach great importance to the dual green and digital transition, where we believe collaboration with Egypt can benefit the entire region." Regarding the digital economy sector, the ministers focused on the project for establishing an AI Hub for Sustainable Development in Africa. Urso emphasized how the AI Hub aims to foster synergies for the digital development of African countries, "starting from Egypt, which has already established experiences related to digitization. The goal is to implement concrete projects that enable access to the computing power required for artificial intelligence models, enhancing local infrastructure and supporting skills development."
